I had never heard the word "prawn" before I came to Portugal. When I initially read it (menus), I thought it was some other seafood I had never heard of. I was thinking it was like crawfish or something like native to Portugal that I had no idea. Sooo, I avoided it.
Come one Portuguese class when my friend, Sam, told us about interesting food to have in her hometown in England. She didn't know how to say "prawns" in Portuguese so our teacher, Gi, said, "camarĂ£o," and I'm like, "that's shrimp!"
My mind was blown. Prawns are shrimp! I text Brian and said, "did you know prawns are shrimp," and he said "yes." WTF? I had never heard of that. Here I was avoiding prawns the whole time!
